Dancer descending

This graceful mural, at Spring and Hudson Streets
in the West Village, is the work of the French
artist JR, who has created other dancers
around the city.

ABC Wednesday—F is for "fairy lights"

Somewhere in the West Village:
I took this shot at the end of February—so if
these started out as a holiday decoration,
I'd like to think that they decided to
keep them up.  Because what's more festive
than fairy lights (at any time of the year)?

They couldn't be stopped

Despite the best efforts of the people in this neighborhood
(especially the ones whose light and air will disappear behind it)
developers are hard at work putting up a 17-story luxury apartment

building here where the West Village meets Soho.

When it's completed, two-thirds of my
friend's view across the Soho rooftops
will be obliterated.  There ought to be a law.
(And there probably is.  And it's
probably being ignored.)

abc wednesday - D is for "discarded"

Aaaawww—too bad.  When I'm feeling down, I can
get an instant lift just by wearing something red, and
there are little touches of crimson scattered
around my house—a teakettle, a candle
lamp, a spray of winterberries . . .
Maybe this sofa proved to be too much of a good thing.
I hope they didn't replace it with something gunmetal gray.

Me & Julio

I love the real NY neighborhoods, where the guys
come down to the schoolyard after dinner for a
friendly game of b-ball.  This is the West Village
(where all the neighbors who aren't part of this
pick-up game are the A-list movie stars who've
come to roost in this part of town.
