Thursday Challenge—"colorful"

Among the many colorful pieces I saw
in the Dale Chihuly Collection at the Morean
Arts Center, in St. Pete, Fla., earlier
this year was this ceiling installation—a much
smaller version of the one at the
Bellagio in Las Vegas.

ABC Wednesday—P is for "painted"

. . . also "piano" and "Pollock"

Saw this in front of a restaurant with
outdoor seating.  Entertainment for the dinner
crowd, I assume.  Don't know what kind of
music is played, but on this instrument
it should be jazz, I think.

ABC Wednesday—O is for "oranges"

I'm not really that fond of oranges and never go

out of my way to eat one, but for the 18 months I was
pregnant with my two kids (well, closer to 19,
thanks to Lila the Late), I had a strong craving and
consumed hundreds (maybe thousands).
I can think of worse things.

ABC Wednesday—L is for "lizard"

I saw this little guy when I was visiting
friends in Florida—he was sunning himself outside
the "cage" that covers their patio and pool
(I was doing the same inside).

ABC Wednesday—G is for "grapefruit"

Why are they called grapefruit when
they don't look or taste anything like a grape?
I've tried (because they do look so good),
but this is one of the few foods—
along with mushrooms and anything
completely disgusting (like tripe or haggis)—
that I'd
just as soon not eat, thank you.

Are you a fan?

You don't mean me, do you?

Apparently not—at least no
one chased me away . . .

ABC Wednesday—E is for "empty"

That's my friend Jimmy and we were the only
customers in this Trader Joe's in Sarasota
on a Saturday night last month.

Here in NYC, you'll never see one of these stores
looking like this—even if it's first thing in the morning
or two minutes before closing time.
(Are you lucky enough to have a
Trader Joe's near you?)

Skywatch/Reflections

My first thought when I visited this building recently
had nothing to do with the fact that it's the Dali Museum

and everything to do with two of my fave memes.

I was even inspired to take a selfie
(something I hardly ever do).

Thursday Challenge—"snacks"

I never go to Costco at home (because I live
in a typical NYC apartment, not a storage facility).
But we made a Costco run while I was down
in Florida recently, to pick up the
very very large economy size of something.
Frankly, faced with the sheer volume

of food there, I can't quite decide whether
I should be impressed or repulsed.

{And speaking of nutty—Happy Birthday, Katie!}

You had me at BoozeJuice

This was for sale at the Saturday Market
in Sarasota, Florida.  I was tempted by the
cute name alone—but managed to resist.

The Weekend in Black and White

This past Monday, I showed you some very

colorful glass from the Chihuly Museum
in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Almost all of the
pieces there are über-colorful.  Then there was this
one
done entirely in clear and white glass—
and
for me it really stood out.

Sunset Persian Wall

That's the title of this incredible work
of glass sculpture, seen at the
(Dale) Chihuli Museum in St. Petersburg
(in Florida).  It's almost overwhelming—
and they don't care how many photos you take,
just so you Don't Touch!!

Palm/Sunday

My friends tell me that when a shopping mall
is built in Florida, the developers don't
plant little trees and wait for them to grow.
Instead, one day there's no vegetation
at all and the next day there's this.

Thursday Challenge—"trees"

This photo of a banyan tree—in St. Petersburg—is
a nice souvenir of my New Year's trip to Florida.

The Weekend in Black and White

Hot-weather haze on a glassy lake
and moss dripping from a live oak tree—
this must be the Deep South.

Weekend Reflections

Now here's a reflection I could probably

learn to live with—as my friends do at their
beautiful home in sunny Florida.
{Thanks again, guys!}

a different reality

I may have returned to the reality of the
polar vortex, but I still have the memory
of this hot yellow hibiscus from my
recent getaway to warmer climes.

Skywatch Friday

A midnight sky in south Florida:
moon and stars and (ever-present) contrails.

Here's what that moon looked like
when the clouds moved away.
