ABC Wednesday—T is for "Tiffany"

Three turn-of-the-century Tiffany lamps
on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art:
a chandelier with "blossom globes,"
a standing lamp with a peony shade, and a
table lamp with a lotus shade.  I hope that whoever

got to live with these lamps at the time
had the good grace to fully appreciate them!
(Louis Comfort Tiffany made the little
oak and bronze table too.)

  1. I love how the museum incorporated the horizontal molding on the walls so that it looks like the lamps are in a room they would be comfortable in during their heyday. I kind of wish the lamps were still in the family and in daily use (outside of a museum context). But as it is, we, rather than the 1%, are the benefactors.

The blossom globes are downright hallucinogenic, in that they resemble pendulous datura tree flowers (Angel’s Trumpets).
