Thursday Challenge—"remembrances (2)"

I'll never forget what it's like to get up at
dawn in Venice—to see the rising sun

reflecting off the palatial homes on the Grand Canal
and experience the city without the
hordes of tourists.  Takes my breath away.

Weekend Reflections

Guess where I'm going tonight!
It's the first stop on a little
Italian pilgrimage that I hope will be
all about fun, food, and friends.
Have scheduled blog posts and hope
you'll come by while I'm away.

Thursday Challenge—"best" (#2)

Last week I chose an image of Paris, the
best place for me.  This time, it's
my second-best place—Venice, of course.
I think the best times of day to explore
la Serenissima
are very early (when I took this shot)

and very late, because that's when
the city really is serene.

Thursday Challenge—creative photos

I took this picture years ago in Venice
and it's still one of my favorites.
I was on the vaporetto and this boat passed
(going faster than it should have been)—all you
see of it are running lights and reflections.

pink palazzo

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends!
I'm missing my family's scrumptious turkey dinner, but
I'm very thankful that I got to come back to Italy this
year—and ride down the Grand Canal on the vaporetto,
and dream of living in a place like this!
Home domani (sigh).

abc wednesday - K is for "kayak"

Not usually what you see on the Grand Canal.
Actually, I'm not sure the serious folks manning the
vaporetti, traghetti, gondole, etc. were all
that thrilled to be sharing their "Main Street"
with such a small craft—I think maybe it's
the Venetian version of riding a bicycle down the
middle of the Ventura Freeway.

ghost ship

Going to Burano today—for the first time,
so no photo.  Instead, here's one taken
from the late-night vaporetto, of another
boat passing on the Grand Canal.
