Do you know what place this is? Two hints: It's in Rome and it's very old. Hey, that really narrows it down, doesn't it? [To see more b/w images, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

The Weekend in Black and White

getting an early start

This horse and driver were ready for all the tourists who will show up here—but at not quite 8 a.m., they weren't yet out and about. [Linking back to Ruby Tuesday and Our World Tuesday.] |

Weekend Reflections

Here's the view from inside the Pantheon in Rome, looking out past the portico to the piazza beyond. {This is my third—and last—Pantheon post for this week. But I love this incredible building.} [To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

Thursday Challenge—"old" (#2)
![]() |
Last week I featured something that's been around for 1, 937 years: this old thing. The Pantheon in Rome is only 1,892 years old. Still . . . (This shot shows a detail of the back of the building.) [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, visit Dale's meme.] |

inSPIREd Sunday
![]() |
I think that a lot of the people who visit the Pantheon in Rome don't realize that it's also a church. |
![]() |
Many of them are mainly there to look up and see this (which is incredible, I admit). [To see more churches from around the world, go here.] |

Une jolie maison jaune
Near the Panthéon and the rue Mouffetard market street is this pretty yellow building where I would love to live. However, an online search and some quick calculations tell me that property values at this well-located address average 15,388 euros/sq. meter —which means that for a place smaller than 300 sq. ft., I would need to plunk down more than $500,000. Oh well. [To see more Monday Mellow Yellow posts, visit Gemma's meme.] |

Shadow Shot Sunday
Can't tell you much about this sweet face— only that it lives in the crypt under the Pantheon in Paris, where such French luminaries as Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, and Marie Curie are buried. [To see more Sunday shadows, go here.] |

The Weekend in Black and White
When the sun is in a position to stream through the oculus of the Pantheon in Rome like this, it's a time of day when you're likely to have lots of company. But just look up and you can almost feel like you're alone in this incredible place —and it could be any time in the past +/- 2,000(!) years. [To see more monochromes, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

Orange You Glad It's Friday?
This colorfully stuccoed building in Rome flies the flags of Italy and the EU, but I believe it belongs to the Catholic church. It's right in the heart of the centro storico, next to the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva and directly behind the Pantheon. In other words, prime real estate. The Weekend in Black and White
At one time I lived about two blocks from this majestic building—this is the portico of the Pantheon in Paris. [To see more monochromes, visit the Weekend in Black & White.] |

Mellow Yellow Monday
Seriously, is nothing sacred? Mellow is
not what I feel when I see this—at least
there are no golden arches to mar the
beauty of the Eternal City.

Mellow Yellow Monday
Might as well stay in the same neighborhood as
yesterday. That church (Santa Maria Sopra
Minerva) is right behind the Pantheon. I love
walking up this street (via Seminario) toward the
Pantheon very early in the morning when
the bulk of the tourists are still asleep.
