Thursday Challenge—"old"

Here's something that's pretty ancient.
Construction was begun under
the emperor Vespasian in AD 72 and
completed eight years later
(under Titus).  So, 1,937 years old.
I'd have to say it qualifies.

The Weekend in Black and White

On this day there were lots of visitors to
the Colosseum, in Rome, including
me.  I took this shot because it's fairly
unusual—as you might expect,
there really aren't a lot of windows here.

Thursday Challenge—"road"

This road is in Rome and runs right
in front of the Colosseum.
It dates back a few millennia—
at which
time, btw, there were no cigarette
butts here—and I'll be
walking on it in a couple of weeks.

Thursday Challenge—"monochrome"

I'd love to go back in time to see what this
looked like when it was first built—but
I wouldn't want to witness the "games" that
were played there (or participate in them!).
How about you?

Shadow Shot Sunday

Here's the Colosseum, in Rome.
Even 2,274 years later (!), can't you just
see the gladiators down here waiting to
face their fate?
