The Weekend in Black and White

This Greek bronze, "The Boxer at Rest,"  was cast
sometime in the late 4th- to 2nd century B.C.
and discovered during an excavation on Rome's
Quirinal Hill in 1885; it's currently on display at the Met.
Despite his wounds (with dripping blood depicted
in copper), you can almost imagine
that he'll spring up to start the next round.

  1. Well, he looks tired. I love how his expression is so intricately carved...

    Have a great weekend.

  2. A great post for the B&W theme!

  3. I really like this Alexa, it's so "rich" in its movement and textures and expression. & doesn't he look like he is wearing a mask?

  4. Good photo; his expression says so much. (It also makes me wonder if he had a crick in his neck...)

  5. Such a fine statue. You've really caught that rich detail.
