Make a Wish

There's a pool at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
(that's it below too, fronting the temple of Dendur,
which has been around in one place or another
since 15 B.C—more about that another day).
So why do people feel compelled to toss coins
into every container of water they come across?
This is not the Trevi Fountain, folks (though I
sincerely hope you got your wish if you made one).

  1. Don't know why, but they do. Here sometimes gypsies wade in to get the coins!

  2. People like to create their own dreams, here they simply wish to come back, and the fact to throw money makes the wish more true..I like this picture very much!

  4. Nice shots! When I was a boy I used to wish that I could have all the coins in the fountains and wishing wells. :)

  6. Nice photograph. I don't know, some people will toss coins into any body of water even when begged not to do so.

  7. Hmmm...I wonder who eventually collects the coins. Probably the fountain/pool cleaner! Interesting reflection of some netting in the water's surface.
