Thursday Challenge—"remembrances (2)"

I'll never forget what it's like to get up at
dawn in Venice—to see the rising sun

reflecting off the palatial homes on the Grand Canal
and experience the city without the
hordes of tourists.  Takes my breath away.

  1. The sun is not all that is rising in Venice. The water is too. This medieval city is going to be drowned by global warming. So sad. Your photo is beautiful.

    1. No aqua alta when I was there this last time, I'm happy to say.

  2. A view of Venice this gorgeous can most often be found only in an art museum. That this is a photograph taken by yourself is all the more incredible, especially considering that from a few minutes later the scene would have looked like this.

It is hoped that measures such as that detailed here may forestall the inevitable flooding. Wiki article on the MOSE project here.
