Beware the bears!

There wasn't actually a big risk of encountering
a polar bear just then, but we didn't
take any chances all the same.  We were headed
out of Ny-Alesund (now a research station)
to see the mast from which Amundsen launched the
airship that took him and two others
over the North Pole.
{And everyone on our expedition got one of
these nice warm red parkas to take home.}

[Linking back to Ruby Tuesday and Our World Tuesday.]

  1. I didn’t realize how far north you were. Wow. Much farther north and you wouldn’t need a compass. Every direction would be south.

    It looks cold (everyone looks like they are carefully walking through syrup) but not so cold to freeze the puddles.

  2. O, I think I was very afraid! Thanks for sharing this photo. Love it. The red coats.

  3. Wow! That is a bucket list trip. I hope you saw the bears in addition to getting to the station ;-)

Thanks, merci, grazie, danke, hvala, gracias, spasibo, shukran, dhanyavaad, salamat, arigato, and muito obrigado for your much-appreciated comments.
