At the Cloisters

This 15th-century limewood carving of Jesus
on a Palmesel (German for palm donkey)
was used in Palm Sunday processions reenacting
Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on a donkey.
(One curious thing about this statue: I don't
think I've ever seen Jesus depicted with
 a receding hairline—have you?)

[It's Ruby Tuesday; to see more go here.

  1. C'est vrai que cela est des plus originale sculpture que j'ai vu!
    Nice post!
Thanks & Welcome for your next visit to my blog
    Have a nice day!

  2. You're right, I don't ever remember Christ being presented in such a manner. Nicely captured image. Happy Ruby Tuesday Too.

  3. Very nice sculpture but I don't picture Jesus with a balding - he was still young and where is the hair?

Thanks, merci, grazie, danke, hvala, gracias, spasibo, shukran, dhanyavaad, salamat, arigato, and muito obrigado for your much-appreciated comments.
