The current church was dedicated in the
12th century, although there was one here as
early as the 6th century.

abc wednesday - M is for "Marcus Aurelius"

Marcus Aurelius ruled the Roman Empire from

161 to 180 AD; he was revered as a philosopher

king during his reign. This 11-foot bronze statue

(a copy—the original, erected in 176 AD, is indoors)

is in the Campidoglio on Rome's Capitoline Hill.

That's My World Tuesday

It's the 65th anniversary of the famous photo

(taken on V-J Day by Alfred Eisenstadt) that's depicted 

by this statue in Times Square.  The

nurse—Edith Shain was her name—just died this 

past June at the age of 91.  Though dozens

of men have claimed to be the kissing sailor, he

has never been positively identified.
