Cent' anni!

A little vicarious trip to Italy
by way of Virginia:
prosecco + Aperol + seltzer
= uno spritz.

Shadow Shot Sunday

I'd love to say that this beautiful antique French
chandelier is mine, but no—and I don't have a grand
cathedral ceiling either.  But I trade in my cozy Brooklyn
digs for real elegance when I visit my friends in Virginia.

Shadow Shot Sunday

I shot these long early-morning shadows shortly
before I took the photo I posted yesterday—
and about 45 minutes before I made it back to
my friends' house with almost-frostbitten
fingers.  Hard to take pictures when
you're wearing gloves, so . . .

The Weekend in Black and White

This photo could have used a person, to peek
out from behind the screen door or sit
on the ramshackle steps.  But this old house
was locked up tight—and, anyway, I was
on my own that bitter-cold morning, hiking
around my friends' 42 acres in Virginia.

Make mine a pinot grigio

Perhaps I've been living under a rock, but
this was a first for me: At the Whole Foods
in Charlottesville, VA, they have a bar.
(But I saw no bartender, so maybe it's just
a clever way to display the wares?)

Shadow Shot Sunday

While I was down in Virginia lately, I went with my
friends on a sunny Sunday to a service at their
beautiful old church (almost 200 years), near
Charlottesville.  Later, while they grabbed a
coffee and socialized, I headed with my trusty
camera to the church's peaceful graveyard.

Keep Out

My friends' guest house is awaiting
renovation—and you can't be too careful.
Hope they'll soon be able to take down the sign,
but then I guess the vines will have to go too.

Fore!

I don't play golf, but if I did . . .
I wouldn't mind 18 holes at this beautiful
club in Charlottesville, Virginia—where you can
see the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance
(and the clubhouse was designed by Thomas Jefferson).

I'd love to say that no pesticides were
used here (but don't know if that's true).
Happy Earth Day anyway!
