Skywatch Friday

Came up out of the subway on Christmas
Eve (annual pilgrimage to Zabar's
on the Upper West Side for
overpriced but delicious holiday treats)
and saw this fluffy sky.  Anyone
know if there's a name for these clouds?

C'est moi (sometimes, when I'm lucky)

The marquee of the Palace Theater, in
October 2015—when I got to see
this fabulous show for the second time
(and gratis both times to boot).
A very
 good memory!

Candy!

Do you ever get a craving for something
tooth-loosening and yummy from your childhood?
Like maybe a long-lasting Sugar Daddy or some
Bonomo Banana Taffy, bright pink Bazooka Bubble Gum
(or itty bitty Tiny Size Chiclets)—or maybe just
some party-in-your-mouth Pop Rocks.
They have it all at (one of four in NYC) It'sugar stores.
Personally, my teeth and I try to stay far away.

ABC Wednesday—I is for "illuminate"

Took this shot a few years ago, and I
believe it was the last time the city did
this to commemorate 9/11.  I was on

lower Broadway, about a mile or so north
of the original Trade Towers site.

'tis the season

. . . because nothing says Christmas
like feathers and sequins, right?

abc wednesday - O is for "out of focus"

But here's my excuse:  It's not easy when picture-taking is strictly
verboten and you're doing it anyway (at least until the jerk sitting
next to you says something—hey, it's not like I was using flash, Dude!).
This is a scene from "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, which
moved recently from Off-Broadway to the real deal.
It's gotten mostly rave reviews—and I loved it!

New York at Night (7)

Saw this clothing store as I was strolling
down Broadway in Soho late at night.
I'll have to go back when they're open and
find out what's up with the hundreds
of antique sewing machines they have displayed
from floor to 30-foot ceiling.

Mellow Yellow Monday

Welcome to Broadway! Like most people who
live in New York, I hardly ever make it to
the theater—but the show I'd love to see right now
is the one just down the street: Billy Elliot.

skywatch Friday

My favorite PTDD is visible from lots
of spots in the city. Always a nice
surprise to look up and see it off
in the distance. This was shot
from lower Broadway—at least 40
(probably more like 50) blocks south.

TKTS

This is the "roof" of the new and improved
TKTS booth.  Here's what's available now.
So what do you want to see?

broadway

Unfortunately, more than half of these shows
are no longer running. I get it, though—
these days, it's hard to afford even the
half-price tkts. Sad, huh?

ticker-tape parades

Although I guess now the rare ones we have are
actually shredded-paper parades. There are plaques
embedded in the sidewalk along lower Broadway to
commemorate past parades.
There are lots of these plaques—this one
just happens to be my favorite.

an illicit "Tale"

Taking photos in the theater is SO verboten! That said,
here's a little shot of the curtain call at A Tale of Two Cities
(it helps if you turn off the sound on your camera).
Saw it with phx-cdg; can't wait to see how it gets reviewed.
It was kinda like Les Miz (duh), only toned down a bit.
