Skywatch Friday

Came up out of the subway on Christmas
Eve (annual pilgrimage to Zabar's
on the Upper West Side for
overpriced but delicious holiday treats)
and saw this fluffy sky.  Anyone
know if there's a name for these clouds?

ABC Wednesday—B is for "barista"

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but sometimes
Starbucks is just the perfect convenient
place to hang out when you have to kill some time.
This one, on the Upper West Side, has a very
warm neighborhood-y vibe.

They Say It's Your Birthday

My all-time fave Beatles song is "In My Life," and since John was 

killed it always makes me think of him.  Imagine . . . that 

John Lennon is still here and we can all wish him a happy 70th birthday!

Mellow Yellow Monday

This building is on Manhattan's Upper West

Side; it's about two blocks from Central Park—

which is why I can't see why someone

hasn't grabbed this cool kite and run with it

right to the Sheep Meadow.

subway art #2

Some subway stations have wonderful tile
art. From top to bottom, these are 66th St.
(Lincoln Center), Houston Street (only
explanation I can think of for this one is that
there is a public pool nearby), and 81st Street
(the Museum of Natural History).

Mellow Yellow Monday

Buttercup Bake Shop is on the Upper
West Side, conveniently located between
Central Park and the subway I need to
take to get home from this nabe. From clinical
psychologist to bakery owner, Jennifer Appel
wisely realized that cupcakes = good therapy.
Though, personally, I'm rather partial to the
banana pudding. What's your fave dessert?

I love the Dakota, and would have liked to see
it like this.
But for me, the real beauty of this building
is in the details.
