And my quandary is: How do the people who live here get in and out? Most of the brownstones in Brooklyn are now multiple-family dwellings, but this one must be a single-family house, because the only sure way in and out is through the doorway under the stoop. {Here's another quandary—how did my baby bro get to be so old? Happy Birthday, Chris!} [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—N is for "neighborhood"
![]() |
I live in "brownstone Brooklyn," but not in one of these old beauties. I opted instead for a prewar apartment building: waaay more closet space but—unfortunately—no stoop (I'm a big fan of these imposing stoops). [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

who goes there?
![]() |
Seen like this, I think there's something a little sketchy or film noir-ish about this stretch of city sidewalk. In fact, it's just the block before mine, with scaffolding and a well-placed work light. [Linking back to The Weekend in Black and White and to Shadow Shot Sunday.] |

the local art scene
![]() |
There's a corner in my neighborhood where an unfinished construction site has been an eyesore for years now. Lately, though, it's become a good spot for some young artists to do their thing. [For the complete story, check out the links in Tall Gary's comment.] [Linking back to Blue Monday.] |

Thursday Challenge—"car"
I saw this baby blue T-bird parked in front of my building recently. While one of my neighbors and I were admiring it, the owner came along and we were able to satisfy our curiosity: It's a 2003 model, made to look like its '60s predecessor; the roof is removable (though the owner never has since he has no place to store it); the person who owns this cool car is a hip grandpa who lives around the corner. My favorite stoop . . .
![]() |
| in my "brownstone Brooklyn" neighborhood. I don't live in a brownstone myself, but if I did I would want my stoop to be as colorful and welcoming as this one. There's a woman who often occupies that chair on the top step; she tends this garden—and enjoys it. [Linking back to Pink Saturday.] |

The Weekend in Black and White
| I think outdoor dining is over until next year. I'll just have to look forward to the next al fresco meal here in the backyard of my favorite neighborhood place (and eat indoors in the meantime!). [To see more monochromes, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

Shadow Shot Sunday
![]() |
| Someone got a little jump on the season— this is the first pumpkin I spotted in the neighborhood (a week ago). Nice carving job; unfortunately, this jack-o'-lantern might look a little sad by Halloween. [To see more Sunday shadows, go here.] |

Orange You Glad It's Friday?
| This is Sepia, our friendly pub local. They have some comfy seating, a patio out back, board games, and local menus in case you want to "order in." I'm not exactly a regular (my daughter Lila took this shot of her sister and some friends), but sometimes I show up for the trivia game on Tuesday—lots of good, clean (very competitive) fun. ABC Wednesday—K is for "kitchen"
| My kids and I recently went to this restaurant, one of many that are popping up in my neighborhood. This place is very popular and deservedly so; they don't take reservations, so we got there early—and still had to wait an hour. But we had a good time at the kitchen "bar"—sipping wine, watching the chefs juggle multiple orders at once, and sending pics to Instagram. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |
