ABC Wednesday—Q is for "quaint"

. . . and also for "queen."  This is part of
Marie-Antoinette's Petit Hameau, her little
escape from the rigors of being royalty.
(Don't blame her a bit—seriously, who would

want to live in the palace at Versailles?)

ABC Wednesday—Q is for "quiet"

The beach at sunrise, just
the way I like it.

ABC Wednesday—Q is for "quandary"

And my quandary is:  How do the people
who live here get in and out?
Most of the brownstones in Brooklyn are
now multiple-family dwellings, but
this one must be a single-family house, because
the only sure way in and out is through

the doorway under the stoop.

{Here's another quandary—how did my baby bro
get to be so old?  Happy Birthday, Chris!}

ABC Wednesday—Q is for "quotes"

I don't know who put this compilation of movie
quotes on the Internet—but it must
have been a fellow romantic, because I can

tell you what film each of these is from
without even thinking about it.
And then there's this:

Because it will not do to leave out Mr. Darcy

when quoting romantic movies
—though the rest of this one is an excellent
example of that famous pride (or is it prejudice?).

Besides, how many movie versions

are there of this classic?
So what's your favorite movie quote?

ABC Wednesday—Q is for "quiet"

Shhhh.  This is the library of the Yale Club
in New York.  Mainly for grads (which I am not)—
but I was here with friends as a guest, and our

charming young host gave us the grand tour.

ABC Wednesday—Q is for 'quai"

Lots of Parisians were making the most of
an early-spring day by strolling along the Seine
and taking in this world-class view
(shot from under the Pont de la Tournelle).

ABC Wednesday—Q is for "Qu'ran"

. . . another way of spelling Koran.
This one is decorated with gold and lapis and
was made in Kashmir in the late 1700s.  It's
on display with other examples of Islamic art
(with many beautiful and also practical
items such as bowls, screens, and carpets)
at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

ABC Wednesday—Q is for "quilts"

These were on display—along with about 30
more historical quilts—in an exhibit called
"Workt By Hand," at the Brooklyn Museum.
That dark graphic design really stands out, doesn't it?
