That's My World

I saw this guy (and his two friends) last year in Union Square and 
have been hoping to find them again ever since.  Finally encountered
them near Bethesda Fountain, in Central Park. At the end of 
their very engaging tumbling act, after jumping over the adorable
and cooperative small child he then jumps over four adults at once!

And wasn't my world spectacular last night?
Had to have some fireworks for the 4th, so I 
braved the crowds and went to watch the
skies light up over the Hudson River.

Happy Hour! (or not)

 Actually, I took this picture at a little past o'dark-thirty
in the morning.  I'm sure that when Happy Hour
rolled around for real, the joint was jumpin'.
One thing I love about Paris café culture:  It's
not just a "tourist" thing.  (You even see
locals at the Flore and the Deux Magots.  Still.)

How about a bike ride?

This fantastic bike is parked underneath the
Brooklyn Bridge.  It's the work of Olek,
crochet artist extraordinaire, who is currently
based right here in Brooklyn. She's covered lots of
things in crochet, including the huge statue of the bull on lower

Even though this lady was a bit overdressed for the 
warm, sunny day, she had a certain je ne sais quoi.

Bklyn Heights

Here in historic (and high-end) Brooklyn Heights
it's quiet enough that the locals walk down the middle
of the street at any time of day.  Try that right over
there across the East River in Manhattan—I dare you.

Paris in Living Color II

These are the beautiful doors of the church of
St. Gervais and St. Protais. There's been a church at
this spot since the 4th century, and it's looked like
this since the 1600s. Wish I could have gone inside
to see the gorgeous organ used by the Couperins.

Musée Carnavalet

This cool sign is in the museum of the
city of Paris, a wonderful repository of
all things Parisien, including recreated
rooms, building models, and shop signs
from a time when most of the population
couldn't read. Some of them are fairly obvious
(see below), but I have no idea what this is
supposed to signify. Any ideas?

Ay, Caramba!

A corner of Maracas Mexican restaurant, where they know 
how to have a good time—the crowd is lively, the waitresses 
(waiters?) are in drag, and the food is way more than typical.

It finally warmed up around here a bit, and the crowd
was loving these street-corner singers, who were
really good and looked like they were having a lot of fun.

And apparently you can do this until 3 a.m.  Actually, I
believe this "game" no longer operates—which is a
good thing, because it's just wrong on so many levels.

In case these boys were wondering what they're supposed to be 
doing here . . .  On the other hand, they are from NYC's hardworking 
Chinese community and probably do need to be reminded.  We're

More snow!  Actually, this is from last week's storm—I woke up
in the middle of the night and stuck my head out the window to
take this shot (with flash, for a change). These snowstorms are
starting to blend together and it seems we haven't seen the last of it.
Sure is pretty though.  (BTW, this is my 1,000th post!)

That's My World

Went to check out NYC's faaabulous 
new food emporium, Eataly.
The joint was jumpin' so I decided to skip the 
restaurants and get a carb fest to go.

Couldn't resist some of this wonderful Italian
butter to slather on that fresh-from-the-oven
baguette. The cashier told me I was only
missing one thing: chocolate!

New York at Night (9)

They've wrapped this tree in blue lights from top
to bottom.  Just hope they don't think they could
ever compete with the lights atop the Chrysler Building!

That's My World

Went for a little walk (more like a trudge—through 3- and 4-foot drifts)
around the neighborhood.  Took me an hour to cover a distance 
that normally takes about 10 minutes. The cars that weren't buried
were either abandoned in the middle of the street or stuck! 
Love the sign in the photo at bottom right: Keep Intersection Clear.
Snowshoes (and ski poles) were definitely the best way to get around today.
