One morning recently as I took my usual walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, I was accompanied by this police helicopter that circled the bridge the whole time. It was hovering in place when I took this shot— must say, it made me feel safe . . . and also creeped me out. I kept wondering just what it was looking for. ABC Wednesday—B is for "bridges"
![]() |
Why I choose my seat carefully when booking a flight back home from Virginia: the hope of getting this view. That's the Brooklyn Bridge (my daily commute) on the left, the Manhattan Bridge on the right. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

Weekend Reflections
Was headed back home after a stroll through Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) when I spotted the bridge reflected (twice!) in this bright red Honda. Thanks for giving me a place to post it, James. [To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

early morning
I loved this view of the Manhattan Bridge (looking past Dumbo from the Brooklyn Bridge), before the East River fog had lifted. [To see more of The Weekend in Black and White, visit Dragonstar's meme. Also linking back to the B and W Photography Project at PODcast.] |

columns of clouds
| One morning recently, this was my view of the Manhattan Bridge and the sky over the city (from the Brooklyn Bridge). And, I swear, this photo is entirely un-edited! [Linking back to Skywatch Friday and to The Weekend in Black and White.] |

Was this really necessary?
![]() |
| How long does it take to spoil a world-class view? Fewer than five months—as I watched this 17-story building go up beside the Brooklyn Bridge. You can still walk out on the bridge and look over to the Manhattan Bridge upriver, of course, so the view is not entirely gone. What really ticks me off is that— with the exception of a small percentage of apartments on the lower floors—this will be yet more luxury housing for the few who can afford it. Thursday Challenge—"blue"
| The Manhattan Bridge, seen from the Brooklyn Bridge at my favorite time of day—what the French call l'heure bleu. [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, go here.] |

Manhattan Bridge

| Haven't been able to go too far afield for photos lately. But it's almost always possible to get a shot or two on the way home—even if all I have is my iPhone. [It's Skywatch Friday. To see more, go here.] |

Skywatch Friday
I featured this same moon (and bridge) on my other blog
last Sunday, but I thought it deserved a closeup.

Mellow Yellow Monday
Oh boy—stinky tofu!
Came across a street fair under the
Manhattan Bridge, where they seemed
to be featuring Taiwanese street food.
I'd never tried stinky tofu (and still
haven't!). What's the strangest thing
you ever ate?

Thursday Challenge: Water
These little girls are playing at the edge of
the East River, at a wonderful new(ish) park
situated between the Brooklyn and Manhattan
Bridges, in DUMBO. It really wasn't that long
ago that this neighborhood was a wasteland.
Now the joint is jumpin'—with galleries and
stores and parks and restaurants and,
of course, expensive real estate
( this place is in DUMBO, btw).

framed
As you know if you've come by lately, now
that the weather is nicer I've been interrupting
my subway commute with a walk across the
Brooklyn Bridge on my way to work—and home.
• A monthly subway pass = $89.
• The iPod on which I upload free NPR
podcasts of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me"
to listen to as I hike the mile+ over
the bridge = $150.
• This incredible view of the Empire
State Bldg. framed by a stanchion of the
Manhattan Bridge = priceless.

apartment envy
I've had my beady little eye on this place in
DUMBO for a looong time. The top three floors
of the building are one apartment—
with slammin' views of lower Manhattan, and
the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.
Someone told me that the current owner
paid $12 million. If true: a bargain!

Manhattan Bridge
Well, the very tippy-top, anyway—as seen
from the Brooklyn side. Just realized
that this bridge will be 100 years old this
year. Not as "sexy" as its closest counterpart,
the Brooklyn Bridge, but even more useful,
since it carries cars, pedestrians,
AND subway trains.

going home . . .
. . . tonight in a light rain—down the FDR, past the
Manhattan Bridge to the Brooklyn Bridge, with lower
Manhattan beyond. This picture doesn't really do
it justice, but it IS so beautiful, even in the rain.
