No, I haven't been on safari (or even to the zoo). This is one of the wonderful dioramas at The Museum of Natural History. When I was a kid, I thought it was just like being right there on the African plain.
My great-great grandfather was an artist and he used to do, among other things, the backgrounds for panoramas in the Harrisburg, Pa. State Museum. --Have you read The Veldt by Ray Bradbury? He is my favorite writer... Now by email I'm sending you the story.
I love dioramas. I can just feel the warmth of the sun on its ear flicking away flies.
Dioramas are not always just of fauna and ancient societies. There is one I know of that represents humanity in the 22nd century (if we are not very, very careful. And when have we ever been?).
Great diorama of the zebras for Z week. Carver, ABC Wed. Team
ReplyDeleteIt's all happenin' at the zoo.
