Mellow Yellow Monday

If you happen to have a few dozen spare
pairs of rubber gloves and a hot-glue
gun, you could make this fetching little
ensemble—but where would you wear it?

Shadow Shot Sunday

The neighborhood in Brooklyn seen here (Boerum Hill)
has lately become celebrity central.  But my good
(and un-famous) friends also live there.  That's why
the movie stars flock here—they can blend in
seamlessly because their neighbors (like most
New Yorkers) just aren't star-struck.

Photo Hunt—"texture"

Here's a close-up of something you see everywhere
in NYC—do you know what it is?

Skywatch Friday

Took this near my building in Brooklyn.
Very near, fortunately—I did manage (just)
to make it home before the rain began.
I have to love a dramatic stormy sky like
this one, though—how about you?

Majestic

Once again: This is why you always want a window seat.
The Alps are quite a sight from 30,000 feet, aren't they?

abc wednesday—O is for "overlook"

I was born in the canyons of Manhattan but my maternal
ancestors arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, in the 1680s
and settled here—in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

One of my Southern cousins and I were driving
through here recently, and she pulled into this scenic
overlook so I could take this panoramic shot.

Trastevere

Back to Rome, and this scene in Trastevere—
I hate the grafitti, but I love the textures:
the wall, the cobblestones, the old door . . .

Mellow Yellow Monday

I love stained-glass windows—and I hit the
jackpot recently at a flea market in Virginia—not
that I have any place to put something like
this (great colors though, aren't they?).

Fore!

I don't play golf, but if I did . . .
I wouldn't mind 18 holes at this beautiful
club in Charlottesville, Virginia—where you can
see the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance
(and the clubhouse was designed by Thomas Jefferson).

I'd love to say that no pesticides were
used here (but don't know if that's true).
Happy Earth Day anyway!

Twice as Nice

Bright pink cherry blossoms reflected in a tranquil pond—
I'm not an especially religious person, but if more people
found God in the springtime, I could certainly see why.

Skywatch Friday

As long as we're still in the garden,
we may as well look up and enjoy
the gorgeous weather and the
cherry trees in (almost) full bloom.

Signs of Spring

The thing I love best about this season
is when all of the flowering trees
burst into beautiful bloom. Just to put

things in perspective, I took another shot of
this very same crab apple tree back in January.

abc wednesday —N is for "Not Allowed"

In Venice's Correr Museum, all manner
of things are proibito.  I'm sure I don't have

to tell you which of these rules I broke.

Traveling Tuesdays

Rome is at its most mysterious late at night—
and you may even find that you have
the Trevi Fountain all to yourself!

grape hyacinths

There are hundreds of these carpeting
the ground under the lilac bushes
in my local botanic garden—it's
a feast for the senses!

Shadow Shot Sunday

Went to a huge flea market down in
Virginia last week.  Naturally, what caught
my eye were (what else?) these shadows.

This triceratops looks pretty sturdy—and yet . . .

Skywatch Friday

It's worth dragging yourself out
of bed at dawn to catch a dramatic
sunrise like this, don't you agree?

New York at Night (13)

Times Square, Tuesday at 8 PM—
the crowds here make me nuts at
pretty
much any hour of the day or night.
On the one hand, I'm glad they
cleaned this area up.  On the other . . .

abc wednesday —M is for "Manhattan"

Anyone who knows this blog also knows
that I can't resist turning on my favorite
"electronic device" before I'm supposed to
when given a view of my hometown like this.
(You may also know that I'd be willing to pay extra
to get a clean, clear window to look through.)

Traveling Tuesdays

Spent a couple of hours here in charming Lexington,
Virginia—in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley—
before flying back home to not-quite-as-idyllic
New York City yesterday.

Disco!

There are plenty of things I don't like about having
to ride the subway every day, but sometimes
a fellow commuter is one of the things I do.

He was headed downtown, and he
was taking the party with him!

Happy Easter

If you're celebrating today, I hope you find
a big chocolate bunny, lots of jellybeans,
some Peeps maybe, and, of course,
some pretty eggs in your Easter basket.

Photo Hunt—"awesome"

I feel strongly that "awesome" is a
very overused word. That said . . .
Three friends and I recently shared this
molten chocolate cake and scoop of salted caramel
ice cream—and we all agreed that they were awesome!

Morning Has Broken

I'm getting on a plane early this morning
and heading south.  I have a window seat
on the port side and I'm hoping for a
clean window and a good sunrise.

Thursday Challenge — "hands"

There's an art to sharing a subway pole on a
crowded train, and New Yorkers have it down:
close but not touching—and don't make eye contact.
(Also, don't whip out your camera and start
snapping your fellow commuters. Just turn off
the sound on your cell phone and try to be discreet.)

[To see more hands, visit the Thursday Photo Challenge.]

abc wednesday —L is for "lace"

I was fascinated by this piece
of lace that was started long ago but
never finished.  I snuck this shot in
the Correr Museum, which is dedicated
to the life and culture of Venice.

photo op of a photo op

Found these guys up on the Brooklyn Bridge
recently.  It looked kind of like they were filming
part of a music video—but one that involved no
handlers, no entourage, no groupies . . . no ego?

[I'm linking back to Our World Tuesday.

tea party*

(*Well, maybe not quite a party
Since I gave up alcohol for Lent . . .
I've had many, many cups of tea.  So why
not use a pretty cup?   (I've had this one
since I was a kid (i.e., for a looong time)!

Shadow Shot Sunday

These plates at the Met date back to the
late Byzantine Era.  Think about it—they've
survived intact for almost 1,000 years!
