I pass by this construction site often on my 
way to work, though I have to admit that I usually 
speed up to get past this monster crane.  
These things make me nervous!

Saw these for sale at a midweek street
fair near where I work in midtown Manhattan.
I think they definitely fit the category.

Ladies who lunch . . .

sometimes lunch here at La Grenouille,
where the noontime prix fixe is
less than half what dinner costs (though
that's not saying it's in my daily lunch budget)
and you're almost guaranteed to spot some
celebrity slurping split pea soup
with pumpernickel croutons or chowing
down on filet mignon sliders.

Back in NY

I love what they've done with these
planters near my office—and they make sure 
the flowers don't wilt in the NYC heat.
Just hope no one actually wants to
sit on those benches.

Letting Off Steam

The steampipes under Manhattan are like a
volcano about to erupt—as they have been
known to do from time to time.
The last time it happened (in 2007) was right
outside my new office. Scary! (But not for me;
fortunately, I started that job a couple of days later.)

An "okay" view

I'd love to widen my horizons and
show you some spectacular skies
over someplace other than Manhattan
or Brooklyn. But such is my life at the moment,
and I guess I should be grateful to have
this view from the office (could be worse for sure!).

This very dramatic storm cloud appeared
out the office window one afternoon,
then disappeared in a matter of minutes.
I imagine it rained on someone—but not us.

More Terrace Envy

I've been watching this terrace from our
office window. They started with the Adirondack
chairs (always paired off by color), and the
red beds, table, and awning are new.  Put in a
bathroom and you could practically live up there!

New York at Night (15)

5th Avenue, 8pm

These food vendors are everywhere, and I see lots 
of people grabbing lunch or a quick snack from them.
Everyone needs to make a living and I'm pretty 
sure the Health Dept. checks these carts out.  
That said—maybe I'm just chicken, but I've never
eaten this food and probably never will.

To me, red and white circles say Target,
but actually, this is the current midtown
Manhattan Louis Vuitton window display.

What??

I'm not trying to make any kind of political
statement with this shot. (Besides, I'm a
New Yorker—where do you think I stand?)
The original clock was installed in Times Square
back in 1989 and this improved version was moved
here to 44th St. in 2004. By the way, from Sept. 2000
to July 2002, the clock was dark because the debt
went down and it wasn't designed to run backward.

view looking west from 3rd Avenue
all the way across 50th Street. I just love
 the top of the tall building on the right.

Shadow Shot Sunday

To me, it looks a bit like Paris—but in fact this
house is right smack in midtown Manhattan.
I'll bet those wrought-iron window guards
cast some pretty nice shadows inside too!
