This is the 16th-century church of San Luigi dei Francesi, in Rome. I'm hoping to visit while I'm here, to see once again the three Caravaggios that feature moments in the life (and death) of St. Matthew. [To see more churches from around the world, go here.] |

abc wednesday - A is for "artist"
Hard to choose one for this category! In the end,
I picked bad boy Michelangelo Merisi da CARAVAGGIO—
this is his "Calling of St. Matthew," one of three
of his paintings in the church of San Luigi dei Francese, in
Rome. (And one of 12 Caravaggios I saw on that trip to Italy,
many of them in churches, where you don't have to pay
to look and there aren't 30 other people
sharing your viewing space. Nice.)
