Weekend Reflections

In honor of Valentine's Day on Sunday,

here are some silver hearts—seen
in one of the world's most romantic cities:
Paris, of course.  (These are meant to
hold solid perfume, I believe.)

ABC Wednesday—V is for "Victor Hugo"

. . . also for Galerie Vivienne, in Paris,
and for volumes—you'll find
many beautiful ones both old and new at
the picturesque Librairie Jousseaume.

Time to head home

It's one minute past midnight, the coach is
once again a pumpkin, and Cinderella
has to get on a plane and return to reality.  Sigh.
But it will be fun to get my pictures up on
the computer and see what I have to share with you.

ABC Wednesday—H is for "heads"

Not all the shops in Paris cater to the tourist trade.
In the area just north of les Halles , there are

lots of stores that sell the things other tradesmen
need—sewing supplies, cooking implements, and
these (a good place to showcase a chapeau)

in the Passage du Caire.

The Weekend in Black and White

This is the Passage Bourg l'Abbé, in Paris's
2nd arrondissement.  These covered streets are a
godsend on a rainy or freezing cold day (as this one was).
Some passages have fallen on hard times; some have
been renovated and feature mostly high-end boutiques.
This one has excellent "bones" and lovely
old woodwork—I think it's ripe for gentrification.

ABC Wednesday—R is for "ribbon"

Last time I was in Paris I stepped into Au Cabas d'Or,
a mercerie (notions store), on the rue du Caire.
Along with buttons and thread and embroidery floss,
they had a fabulous selection of ribbon of all kinds.
(I bought 3 pieces—including the blue
on the left—and framed them for a friend who
loves beautiful ribbon as much as I do.)

This was barely a quarter
of what was available.

Passage du Grand Cerf

Back in November I visited this beautiful
flower shop located just inside the
Passage du Grand Cerf (hence the stag's
head), in Paris's 2nd arrondissement.
Inside were lovely hothouse blooms . . .
outside—(well-wrapped) Christmas trees.

The Weekend in Black and White

Good food has never been hard to find in Paris,
but these days some priorities may have shifted.  The
first thing this little restaurant, Le Tiquetonne, wants you
to know is that they have WiFi.  (Oh, and you can also
get a "simple and good" old-fashioned burger. )
