ABC Wednesday—X is for "extra X's"

When I saw this, I just saw X's—but
this is the mast that three men climbed
to board their dirigible in 1926,
and took off to be the first to fly over the
North Pole.  They made it, but
never knew that they had.

There's a plaque on the mast that
commemorates their accomplishment.

  1. I understand (not) that this mast was on the market one year for about six weeks after Ash Wednesday and therefore has something in common with this post in that they can both to be said to be, at least phonetically in your case, related to the term “X-sell-Lent.”

Had to check out a photo of the Norge.

  4. Cool piece of history and a rather attractive plaque.
