inSPIREd Sunday

I took this shot of Notre Dame from the
Pont de l'Archevêché last time I was here, in September.
We get it: You're in Paris and you're in love (with each

other or maybe just with the city itself).  Mazel tov—really.
But how about showing some love for the bridges
of this beautiful place (and not cluttering up
the
view of this gorgeous cathedral)?

The locks that made part of the parapet on the
Pont des Arts collapse were removed in early June
and I hope these are gone by now too.

[To see more churches from around the world, go here.]

  1. Brava!

It’s funny that several of them are combination locks! “With this we pledge our eternal love. (That is until I can find an even easier way to get laid. But in the meantime, if I find yet another ‘eternal’ love I can save some money by reusing the old lock. Again and again).”

  2. Or, “Yes! Let’s express our love for each other by defacing one of the most special cities in the world and doing our best to make of it a dangerous eyesore of a junkyard!”

Maybe one heavy-duty pedestrian bridge could be designated as Pont d’Amour and periodically all the locks could be removed easily by design and sold as scrap, the proceeds going to some charity. All other bridges have to be lock proof.

Or locks that are rapidly biodegradable in air. Ha ha.

There should be a blockbuster novel or movie where the lover protagonists take a hacksaw and remove a lock from a bridge. That’s the trend we need to see. Just clicking a lock shut and throwing away the key. That is so easy! But to really prove your love by the hard-won team work and dedication, the great effort to, together, take a lock off a bridge—Now that is a true expression of love. For each other and the world!

  3. You wanna come to Paris and show your love to each other with a lock? Forget that bridge and padlock nonsense. It doesn’t get much better than this.

  4. That is ridiculous!! We have a bridge near us that contains some locks as well. You will find them all around the world.
I like Tall Gary's idea of the combination lock!!!

    1. They're off the Pont des Arts, but still here on the Pont de l'Archeveche.

  6. There ought to be a law against such destruction. And, yes, I love Notre Dame and do want a beautiful view.
